It’s all about how you mix it
The performance characteristics of a tire’s rubber compound are largely determined by three interrelated factors: grip, rolling resistance, and durability. The dilemma: improving one of these factors inevitably impacts at least one of the others negatively. A tire with maximum grip wears out faster and rolls slower. If you make the tire faster or more durable, its grip decreases accordingly.
With our Black Chili Compound, a tread mixture based on the latest findings in polymer and raw material research, we have provided a lasting solution for the cycling world. Depending on the intended use of the tire—whether for road cycling, mountain biking, time trials, or downhill racing—we tailor the compound recipe specifically.
For Black Chili, we refine special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to create highly efficient tread compounds. We then add carbon black particles, which are optimized in shape and surface properties, to enhance performance further.
